It won’t be long before you get to see young girls attending to your bike complaints when you take it for repairs.

The traditional male bastion is being demolished by four girls – Anagha Treesa, Pearl Joseph, Tania Sabu and Riyan Pinheiro – who are doing a diploma course at the Little Flower Engineering Institute in Kalamassery.

“Normally, only the guys learn bike repair. We are being trained by Yamaha under their CSR initiative,” said Pearl Joseph, one of the students.

She says that they are the first girl students in their college to study this course. Pearl and Anagha have already learned to ride a bike.”We learned it because we wanted to. But that doesn’t make a difference. We know all the parts of a bike,” she said.

The students are studying for a national certificate course in vocational training (NCVT). The course coordinator K P Biju said that Yamaha has promised to absorb all the students.
