All-New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Launching In India Next Year

After a long hiatus of not launching a new product, Mitsubishi’s Indian division launched the latest generation Outlander in April 2018 and is looking to follow it up with another notorious SUV. The Pajero Sport sold globally is currently in its third generation and Mitsubishi has already started working on its mid-cycle refresh.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport for India is a radical departure to the existing model and is expected to enter showrooms later next years. It will be brought into the country through CBU channel initially before locally assembled. It could be priced at a slightly expensive range considering that main rivals Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and upcoming Mahindra XUV700 are assembled in India.

The facelifted model waiting for arrival in the international markets could be the one reaching India as a brand new generation. It sits on the same platform as the Triton pickup truck, emphasising robustness and highly capable off-roading character. It will have different modes for driving modes as well and will offer four-wheel-drive in the high-spec variants.

The exterior boasts major improvements with sleeker headlamps, more aggressive front grille, increased use of chrome, sporty silhouette, squared wheel arches, prominent character lines, vertically stacked tail lamp cluster, busy front bumper with larger air dam, etc.

Stepping inside the cabin, the new Pajero Sport will comprise of a number of premium features including a large touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, all-leather seat upholstery, 360-degree camera view, electronic handbrake and seven airbags among other safety and driver assistance bits.

Elsewhere, the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is sold in a variety of engine options such as a 4D56 2.5-litre diesel with 134 hp and 324 Nm, a 4N15 2.4-litre diesel making 178 hp and 430 Nm, and a 6B31 3.0-litre petrol with either 215 hp and 285 Nm or 206 hp and 279 Nm.

However, India will reportedly get only the 178 hp 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with BS-VI compliance. It could carry a price tag of around Rs. 30-35 lakh (ex-showroom) by being a full import upon launch.
