Almost two months on since its inauguration, the workshop at Anayara depot of KSRTC is yet to start functioning. According to officials, lack of water and electricity has delayed opening of the garage.

“The procedure for getting electricity connection has already begun and the depot will get power by next week. The request for water connection is also submitted,” said Sarith Kumar, chief traffic officer with KSRTC.

The depot and workshop were constructed on 3.5 acres near World Market to decongest the KSRTC terminal and workshop in the city. The workshop can accommodate three buses at a time. Buses plying on Anayara route also halt at the terminal. Constructed at cost of Rs 2 crore, the depot and workshop were inaugurated by chief minister Oommen Chandy on February 26. It has been using temporary electricity connection provided by contractor during its construction and water is supplied in tankers from KSRTC Staff Training Centre, Attakulangara. There is no provision for drinking water. Eight mechanics, who were deployed at the depot, are now working at the depot at Vikas Bhavan. A t present, staffs in-charge of auto at the depot undertakes urgent repair works such as bus breakdown.

According to KSRTC staff, post for power supply has been installed and only connection needed to be given but the procedure for water supply has not started.
“The machines at the workshop cannot function using the temporary power supply. Also, requirements of the workshop cannot be met through the water supplied by tankers,” said a KSRTC staff member at the depot. KSRTC had sent a request for water connection to Kerala Water Authority last month. The connection can be given by extending the pipeline from World Market, located near the depot. Now, KSRTC officials are trying to get a consent letter from World Market, as per the directive of KWA for extending the pipeline.
