Unhygienic and stale food were seized in a raid conducted by officials of the district Health Department at several hotels including KSRTC Canteens in Aluva and Palakkad.

Five persons, including the manager of a hotel, were arrested by the police in connection with the incident. Health officials raided hotels in Aluva early morning and the canteen attached to the KSRTC stand, Aluva and directed three hotels to be closed down.

Stale food and week-old fish products and meat were seized by the health officials on Friday. In some hotels, workers were seen sleeping in kitchens. Pan masala and other banned food items were also seized from the workers.

Several complaints were registered against these hotels earlier too. Raids will continue in the coming days.
