KSRTC which is in crisis for a good part of its existence is now coming out with prepaid cards to boost its revenue earnings.

Using the card, one can travel in any KSRTC buses across the state during a definite time by paying in advance.

KSRTC plans to roll out smart cards which can be used from ordinary to superfast buses with different pricing. In the first phase, prepaid cards would be rolled out under Rs 1000, 1500 and 3000.

KSRTC plans to bring out the card with a validity of one month and will be launched next week. The cards can be topped up and used again.

Bonus Card: Rs 1000 card valid for ordinary buses with 1-month validity

Silver Card: Rs 1500 card for Rajdhani, Ananthapuri, Venad buses with 1-month validity

Gold Card: Rs 3000 card for long distance fast and superfast buses with 1-month validity

Premium Card: Rs 5000 card for KSRTC buses other than Scania and Volvo buses

 

The cards that will be of the size of an ATM card will have marked on them the name of the person availing it along with the number of an identity card that will produce for issuing the card. While traveling in the bus, the passenger needs to show the valid card along with the identity proof which mentioned in the card.

The corporation plans to roll out some 10,000 cards, to begin with that will be increased immediately on demand.The travel cards are expected to be of great help to commuters who, after demonetization, are finding it difficult to tender change with the KSRTC staff.

KSRTC is also finding it difficult to provide change to the passengers. The corporation is mooting the new idea as a way to mop up revenue especially when there is a severe liquidity crunch in the economy. The KSRTC management feels that the issuing of cards will be beneficial to the corporation in making some extra revenue.
