Chief Minister Oommen Chandy engrossed in a discussion with Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan during the foundation stone-laying function of KSRTC bus terminal in Malappuram on Saturday
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for a new KSRTC bus terminal-cum-shopping complex here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chandy underscored the necessity of joint efforts by the government, employees and the public to help development of KSRTC.
Presiding over the function, Minister for Transport Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the KSRTC would begin an inter-State service from Malappuram to Bangalore. The new service was announced in response to a demand made by P. Ubaidulla, MLA. Mr. Radhakrishnan said efforts would be made to enhance the daily income of Malappuram depot from Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh. “Employees should cooperate for that,” he said.
The Minister said the KSRTC would procure a loan of Rs.1,300 crore from nationalised banks to overcome the financial difficulties. The loan process is through, he said. Minister for Industries P.K. Kunhalikutty also spoke.
The new bus terminal complex in 2.15 acre will have six storeys, four of which will be constructed in the current phase. The terminal, costing Rs. 7.9 crore, can accommodate 50 buses. The first two storeys will be completed in 18 months, said KSRTC officials.
Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar, P. Ubaidulla, MLA, T.A. Ahamed Kabeer, MLA, District Panchayat President A.P. Unnikrishnan, District Collector T. Bhaskaran, Malappuram Municipal Chairperson C.H. Jameela, vice chairman Pullani Sayed and district leaders of major political parties spoke.
