The move of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to create a new post of Executive Director, Research and Training, at a time when the ailing State transport undertaking cannot mobilise funds for even paying pension has come in for flak.

The new post is being created in addition to the existing five Executive Directors for Technical, Maintenance and Works, Administration, Operations, and Vigilance. A sum of Rs.1.80 crore is being spent annually for the salary and perks of these five posts and the creation of a new one will incur additional expenses to the ailing corporation, sources said.

The proposal is to figure in a director board meeting scheduled on March 7. The move is to post the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) as Executive Director. The Works Manger was posted as OSD sometime back superseding the seniority of 10 personnel and given charge of the Secretary of the KSRTC Board ignoring the claims of the ministerial staff and protests of the staff.

The KSRTC has already got a Staff Training Centre at Attakulangara, near Transport Bhavan, the headquarters of the KSRTC here. The Executive Director, Technical, is in charge of the training centre and training is being imparted without any hitch even during the crisis period, sources added.
