Minnal bus row: Mere following rules is not satisfactory, says KSRTC MD’s circular

Payyoli: KSRTC Managing Director has again intervened in the issue in which a KSRTC Minnal bus did not allow a girl student to alight at the stop in the midnight. MD A. Hemachandran issued a circular stating that the employees following only the rules all the time is not satisfactory. Hemachandran said that he issued the circular as ‘Mathrubhumi’ has put forth the issue for a serious discussion.

The circular suggests that not everything follows rules and regulations but we have to apply some insight while handling certain issues. Everything that could happen during a journey cannot be predicted. We cannot resolve everything through law and orders.

The job responsibilities and other tensions are likely to cause stress with the employees. They have to maintain a good relationship with the passengers. The circular is expected to be a motivation for that. The MD also said that the employees would take it positively.

He also added a story “All About a Dog” by A. J. Gardner, in order to explain how to handle things with insight. The story is about a bus conductor who did not allow a woman to get into the bus with a puppy on a cold night, pointing out the rules. The narrator himself advises the conductor in the climax to use common sense according to the situation.

The managing director also directed that the employees should be made to read the story and discuss the topic. The story should be used during the training session too. The story has been attached in both English and Malayalam along with the circular.
