Months after former district collector Biju Prabhakar ordered eviction of traders in East Fort, things are back to square one. Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) has expressed its strong objection to handing over land for rehabilitation of traders at East Fort. The presence of traders here contributes to the traffic chaos in the area.

A meeting convened by district collector S Venkatesapathi the other day could not find a solution to the traffic chaos in East Fort, where unruly traffic has claimed lives of several pedestrians.

After Prabhakar took decision to evict traders, a meeting of ministers such as Kadakampally Surendran, K Ramakrishnan and E Chandrashekharan decided to put it on hold in August. A senior official of KSRTC said that the meeting of ministers did not take any decision to hand over land of KSRTC.
