KSRTC bus staff turn saviours for passenger who collapsed in bus

The timely action by the driver and conductor of a KSRTC bus saved a passenger’s life on Wednesday. Jayakumar (63), a fisherman from Karunagappally, fell unconscious in the bus due to chest pain. Conductor Santhosh Kumar and driver Tajudeen of Karunagappally KSRTC depot took the  initiative to take the passenger to the hospital.

The incident happend on Wednesday morning at 8 on the way to Azheekkal via Ochira from Karunagappally.

Jayakumar, who boarded the bus from Prayar junction to Azheekkal harbour, had severe chest pain and fell unconscious when the bus was crossing Aalumpeedika. Noticing Jayakumar’s condition, the bus conductor asked the driver to stop the bus.

Though he requested the help of other passengers to take him to hospital, nobody was ready for it. Hence, the bus driver took Jayakumar to the nearest hospital in the KSRTC Bus itself.

Identifying symptoms of cardiac arrest, the doctor asked them to shift the patient to a better hospital.

Shifting Jayakumar to another hospital was a challenge for the bus driver and conductor as there was no ambulance to take the patient. Hence they took him in an autorickshaw and admitted him to a private hospital in Ochira.

The KSRTC staff left the hospital after informing Jayakumar’s relatives and Ochira police.
