The Kalamassery Municipality has approached the Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) seeking services from the new bus stand near the government medical college in the municipality.

Municipal chairperson Jessy Peter met KSRTC Managing Director over this issue citing that it would be highly beneficial to patients frequenting the medical college.

The bus stand is being built on a 70-cent plot allotted by KINFRA near the medical college. Finishing works are on and the stand is likely to be thrown open by next month. It will have the capacity to park up to 15 buses and will feature toilet facilities and a waiting shed.

Ms. Peter handed over a representation requesting not less than ten services from important points like Aluva railway station to the medical college bus stand. The municipality had also pointed out that diverting the current services operated through the Seaport Airport Road through the bus stand would be equally helpful, she said.

The KSRTC is learned to have conceded the request for services through the bus stand, which is nearing completion. Absence of adequate bus services has put patients and their relatives visiting the medical college to immense hardships. Often patients visiting the medical college are critically ill and are from economically backward families making the strengthening of public transport connectivity to the health care institute all the more significant.
