First set of TSRTC e-buses deployed

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s first set of environment-friendly electric buses were pressed into service on Wednesday.

Special Chief Secretary Ajay Mishra and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar flagged off the five zero-emmission buses which are a part of a contract deployment of a total of 40.

A subsidy of ₹1 crore per bus has been given to the Telangana government under the Centre’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FLAME) scheme.

Low floor

The 12-metre air-conditioned buses have a low floor and a capacity of 40 passengers, including the driver.

The buses have been manufactured in the country by Olectra Greentech in collaboration with BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd.

The buses are powered by a lithium-ion battery, and each electric bus can travel over 250 km in a single charge.
