Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland, on Monday, exported 100 ‘Falcon’ buses to Ghana for $7.6 million.
The vehicles were inducted to the fleet of Metro Mass Transit Ltd, a transport company in which the Ghanian Government has 45 per cent stake, the commercial vehicle maker said in a release.
The buses will run on 360 inter- and intra-city routes throughout the country.
Focus on Africa
“Africa has been one of our key focus markets and presents some very unique opportunities for us,” the release quoted Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, as saying.
“This order is one more affirmation of acceptance of our vehicles in various parts of Africa, like, for example, our buses hold a premium status in the Bus Rapid system in Lagos, Nigeria, which is the only such model in sub-Saharan Africa,” he added. This order comes a year after Ashok Leyland supplied 160 waste management trucks to Ghana.
