What is the meaning of written some codes on the side of Indian Railway locomotives?

This nothing but a writing style. The total words are WAP 7. The meaning of WAP 7 are

W:- Locomotives use in brodge gauges.

A:-Locomotives runs on AC traction motors

P:- Locomotives use for passengers services

7:- series number of Locomotive class in Indian Railways.

After production Locomotive handover to highest Railway Administration. Railway administration takes decision to which shed that Locomotive will be working for. After having Locomotive particular shed written the name of shed on locomotive. Thus that Locomotive belongs to that particular shed. There are 29 Locomotive shed in Indian Railways. Here are the list.

CR:-Ajni,Kalyan

ER:-Asansol, Howrah

ECR:-Mughalsarai,Gomoh

ECoR:-VSKP,Angul

NR:-Ghaziabad, Ludhiana,Jhansi

NCR:- Kanpur

SR:-Arrakonam,Erode,Royapuram

WAP-7 locomotive is being developed by CLW by modifying the gear ratio of the the present Electric Freight locomotive WAG-9. This locomotive is the India most successful locomotive. It is capable of hauling trains at speeds ranging between 110 to 140 kilometres per hour (68 to 87 mph). It is being first used in 2000. In trials conducted in CLW, it attained the speed of 180 km/hr, but Indian Railways restricted its operational speed to 140 km/hr and reserve speed of 130 km/hr. This is a highly modified locomotive fitted with AAR tightlock couplers and chain link couplers.

The most unique feature of this locomotive is that it can haul loads of 24-26 passenger coaches (1,430–1,550 t or 1,410–1,530 long tons or 1,580–1,710 short tons) at 130 km/h or 81 mph. This is all just because of its high acceleration capability. This is the thing which the WAP-5 locomotive lacks. A WAP-5 locomotive can also pull 24 coach load at speed more than 100 km/hr, but its efficiency in doing that is very less and hence forth attaining the speed 130 km/hr with that load is also not so much good. While in that case WAP-7 is a winner and can easily speed up to more than 100 km/hr and that too in short time.

Another most unique feature of this locomotive is that it eliminates the need to have separate DG sets for air-conditioning in long distance trains hence providing huge savings on maintenance and running costs. This technology is called HOG or ‘Head On Generation’ where the loco transfers electric power from its panto-graph to the coaches. The technology, called HOG or “Head On Generation”, transfers electric power from the loco’s pantograph to the coaches instead of “End on Generation” in which a Power Car equipped with diesel generator capable of generating adequate power of 3-phase 50 Hz 415 V / 750 V AC (called ‘hotel load’) is provided at either end of the train rake to supply power.

Technical Specification : WAP-7 locomotive can deliver 6,350 hp and a total of 7000 hp at extreme. Another feature is its REGENERATIVE BRAKING. The regenerative braking is deployed on down gradients conserving energy to the tune of 30-35 percent. It has also an inbuilt microprocessor based fault diagnostic system to make trouble shooting easier. While the other things are all similar to the WAG-9 locomotive.
