In a day-long Statewide drive on Wednesday, the Motor Vehicles Department booked 3,058 motor vehicles for the use of non-standard dimensions of numbers and letters on the number plates.

Code-named Operation Number, the drive carried out by the personnel of the enforcement wing yielded a penalty of Rs.10,00,650.

Transport Commissioner Tomin J. Thachankary said the drive was launched in the wake of reports and information from the public and social media that the public and law enforcing agencies were finding it difficult to decipher the numbers and letters written in decorative fonts and styles at a glance.
