After reaching the bus stand at 12.30 am on Tuesday, Vijayakumar started caning the sleeping passengers.

He also beat up a person who questioned his action. At this juncture, another person supported Vijayakumar and assaulted the person who questioned him. Those who witnessed the incident said that Vijayakumar also brutally hit the person who questioned him.

Later, the Thampanoor police reached the spot and took Vijayakumar and three others into custody. However, Vijayakumar told police that he was beaten up by the passengers.

Allegations have been raised that police took Vijayakumar’s side in the case.

The Thampanoor police said that a case has been registered against four persons including Vijayakumar for fighting at the bus stand. The police also said that Vijayakumar was drunk.

However, Thampanoor SI said that Vijayakumar did not beat up passengers sleeping in the bus stand. The SI said that Vijayakumar had beaten up some people who used to create problems in the bus stand regularly.
