Now, log on to free WiFi on TNSTC bus

Even when private omni bus operators hesitate to offer high-tech services to its passengers, the Nagercoil Division of the TNSTC is offering free WiFi with 4G speed for passengers. From April 6, this service is being offered to woo young travellers travelling to Chennai from Nagercoil.

The facility that is being offered in the ‘Nanjil Raja’ Route No. 555 Ultra Deluxe (UD) Chennai-Nagercoil and Nagercoil-Chennai has received good response from the public, especially from youngsters said a top official of the Nagercoil Division of TNSTC here on Monday. The official said that the Nagercoil Division of the TNSTC was allocated five Ultra Deluxe buses by the government one and half years ago. But as these buses were similar to the SETC buses, the TNSTC faced difficulty in getting patronage.

To overcome this, the TNSTC was forced to innovate, like naming the bus services as ‘Nanjil Thenral’ that operates at 5 p.m. and ‘Nanjil Raja’ that operates at 6 p.m. daily from Nagercoil to Chennai.

Naming the bus services to attract die-hard fans from Kanniyakumari district (erstwhile Nanjil Nadu) received good patronage and this increased further after the introduction of free WiFi.

“The facility can be used by 32 passengers at a time with 4G speed, if all the 44 passengers use the facility, the speed gets slightly reduced”, the official said.

The WiFi facility was tested and it is available all along the route without any interruption, the official added. The entire expense for this project has been borne by the officials.

In addition to this, five plug points for mobile chargers were also provided inside the bus for the benefit of the passengers. The user ID and Password of the WiFi have been written inside the buses.
