MG (Morris Garages) Motor has made its entry into India with the launch of Hector. The carmaker has certainly shocked everyone by keeping the introductory price of the premium SUV at Rs 12.18 (ex-showroom, India). At this price, MG Hector is definitely going to give its competitors like Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta, a good run for their money.

We already knew that MG Hector is a feature-loaded premium SUV. However, the fact that it has been priced very competitively in the range of Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India) is a game changer altogether.

Within 23 days of the start of bookings on June 4, MG Motor India has received more than 10,000 bookings for Hector. One can choose from several low-cost maintenance plans starting from Rs 8,000 onwards for the first three years for the premium SUV. The company claims an ownership cost of 45 paise per kilometer for the petrol variant and 49 paise per kilometer for the diesel trim.

The new Hector is one powerful SUV, with loads of space. It boasts of hefty dimensions, multiple engine options and impressive mileage figures. Below are all the relevant technical specifications of the vehicle you need to know.

MG Hector Engine & Transmission

In all, there are three engine options available with MG Hector. There is the 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled petrol engine that makes 143 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It is offered with 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed DCT. There is the 1.5-litre hybrid turbocharged intercooled petrol motor that produces 143 PS and 250 Nm of torque. There is also a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel powertrain that churns out 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Both the hybrid and diesel variants come with a 6-speed manual transmission.

MG Hector Mileage

Among all the variants, the diesel one is the most fuel efficient with a mileage of 17.41 kmpl, followed by petrol hybrid at 15.81 kmpl, petrol standard manual at 14.16 kmpl and petrol standard DCT at 13.96 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity is 60 litres.

MG Hector Wheel & Brake

The wheel size of the new MG Hector has made a lot of news. Many say that it is not proportional to the overall dimensions of the vehicle. To make things clear here, the entry-level Style variant gets 17-inch steel wheels, while there are 17-inch alloys in the Super, Smart and Sharp variants. There are disc brakes at the front and rear.

MG Hector Dimensions

The premium SUV comes with best-in-class length and wheelbase at 4,655 mm and 2,750 mm. The width of Hector is 1,835 mm, while the height is 1,760 mm. Besides, there is a 587-litre boot.

As per MG Motor India, the decision to stop the bookings temporarily has been taken keeping in mind the company’s commitment to ensure customer satisfaction.

The company plans to increase production for the Hector at its Halol manufacturing facility to 3,000 units per month by October this year.

“Our first product, MG HECTOR, has received an overwhelming response and we are unable to cater to such high initial demand. We are, therefore, closing bookings temporarily as this will help ensure timely and orderly deliveries for our customers who have shown tremendous confidence in MG. We are also working with our component suppliers to ramp up production in a gradual manner without any compromise on quality,” said Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India.
