The KSRTC has started chain services involving ordinary buses in several routes within the district.

This comes after the introduction of long-distance (inter-district) chain services. In addition to city-based routes, rural areas are also covered extensively as per the new schedules.

The chain services will be operated in eleven routes in the district.

The announcement of chain services through the road transport corporation’s social media page has received good response from commuters who have been requesting for more ordinary services in several routes.

It was announced at a time passengers were complaining about withdrawal of ordinary buses to operate fast passenger buses.

Every day, the chain services will begin at 6 am and operate till 9pm. Target passengers are daily commuters like students and office goers. “Around 51% of KSRTC schedules are ordinary services. Our MD has directed to operate chain services in those routes in which passengers have demanded more services,” said an official from KSRTC.

These buses will be operated at an interval of 15 to 20 minutes. “Routes like Attingal-Varkala are major routes of private buses. We mooted chain services as it will result in more people preferring to travel in KSRTC buses.

We hope that it will prove profitable to the road transport corporation in the long run,” said an official from KSRTC.
