The Kalamassery police have launched a probe to trace a three-member gang who allegedly assaulted an employee of a fuel station near here on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the petrol pump in front of Apollo Tyres around 7.30 a.m. after the gang in a car filled fuel for Rs. 1,000 and gave their ATM card for settling the bill. However, they punched the wrong pin number twice and when the fuel station employee asked for the correct password, the gang beat him up brutally.

Praveen, 21, a resident of Cumbam in Tamil Nadu, ran towards the pump office to escape from the assault. However, the three followed him and beat him up inside the office. Following the assault, he was admitted to the Medical College in Kalamassery even as the three accused fled towards Aluva.

A complaint was later lodged with the Kalamassery police who seized the car from Aluva.
