Kottarakkara is a vast developing town and municipality in Punalur Revenue Division and Kollam (formerly known as Quilon) District, in Kerala state. The town is close to Kollam Port, which has a rich history linked to the early medieval period as well as a reputation as an important commercial, industrial and trading center. The name of the town is derived from two Malayalam words – kottaram (which means palace) and kara (which means land). When combined, Kottarakkara literally means the land of palaces and the name is rightly justified through its history.

Situated at a distance of about 27 km from the city of Kollam and 60 km from the capital city of Kerala, Kottarakkara is easily accessible by rail and road. The climate of the region is pleasant almost around the year, enabling tourists to visit the place in all seasons. A trip to Kottarakkara can be clubbed with other sightseeing options in and around Kollam.

The colorful and intricately carved Arulmigu Patteeswarar Swamy Temple lies southeast of here. In the center, the Gass Forest Museum has a huge collection of preserved animals and tree trunks. Southeast, birds and butterflies inhabit Singanallur Lake.

One of the largest cities of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore is a major hub for industry, textiles, and manufacturing, and is also the gateway to several other tourist destinations in South India. However, there is a lot more to Coimbatore than just that. From ancient temples to classy new buildings, from breathtaking mountains to jaw-dropping waterfalls, from a mouth-watering cuisine to pleasant weather all year round, Coimbatore has everything you could possibly need to make for a perfect holiday experience.
