Two Women’s Bike Trip From Kanyakumari to Leh in 129 Hours

The idea of travelling excites everyone and we all have some places on our bucket list. While we see so many people around us going on adventurous trips, women travelling alone still hasn’t become a norm in India. Safety concerns hold us back from having the fun of setting out on our own, meeting new people and discovering a new connection with our own self.

But two brave women Amrutha Kashinath and Shubra Acharya broke all the stereotypes, picked up the bike and kick-started their journey from Kanyakumari that ended in Leh, in just 5 days i.e. 129 hours. It is the fastest South-North tour done by women on a motorcycle, and this expedition has also registered their names in the ‘Limca Book of Records’.

As per Amrutha, they had no such plans to complete the journey in limited time frame. It was later that they decided to challenge themselves, and without any realisation finished the journey in just five days.

Both women are avid travellers, and have been to different places across the country over the past seven years. Amrutha and Shubra’s expedition was entirely sponsored, and they even underwent some training to make this happen.

Since they travel on a regular basis, Amrutha and Shubra were well-aware of the challenges they might encounter in their journey, and prepared accordingly. However, their biggest challenge during their expedition getting enough sleep.

Amrutha and Shubra have known each other for the past 12-13 years, and say that having a good equation and understanding between each other helps in these motorcycle expeditions. “We have covered around 2 lakh km around the country. Then we covered Bhutan and Sri Lanka. This year we are going to Mongolia” Amrutha said.

The trip was completely sponsored and both the women are frequent travellers. They have been on several journeys together from past seven years, and together they took some training sessions for months to make this journey possible. They were well prepared and familiar with the challenges that they might face while on the trip. But what troubled the two the most was sleeping hours. Amrutha says that it was extremely taxing to manage 5 hours of sleep.
