Himachal Parivahan (HRTC) recently kicked off a bus service from Delhi to Leh that would span a range of 1100 kms in a span of about 38 hours. Now, the state government of Maharashtra has tied up with the Jawaharlal Nerhu Port Trust (JNPT) for what seems to be a new tourist attraction.
According to reports, a yellow coloured amphibious vehicle will soon make its way to the financial capital of the country. Known as the ‘Duck’ in the western countries, the bus will drive past popular tourist spots after which it will plunge into the sea for an extended tour.
Once implemented, the tourists will soon be able to take part in such land-to-water tours which is said to be a pet project by Union Minister of Road Transport and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari. With a capacity to accommodate about 30 to 50 passengers, the planned tour will have a duration of two hours which includes half an hour in the sea alone.
Currently under development in Sweden, the cost for one unit of the amphibious vehicle is said to be approximately Rs. 5 crore. The models are expected to be ready within a period of one month. The said buses that have been ordered will be under the ownership of the JNPT.
Satish Soni, Joint Managing Director, MTDC, said that the bus will arrive in the city by September and they intend to start the service the following month. They are currently in the process of getting approval to construct a jetty at Girgaum Chowpatty.
