Countries where Indian Driving License is valid

Road trips are awesome and driving on international roads, with GPS or may be a map has the kind of charm you’d probably not find in any other experience!

Though in India, we drive on the left side of the road, here is a list of countries where the Indian Driving License is valid with an International Driving Permit.

1. U.S.A.

Your license has to be valid in the English language. You can drive around the country for a year and you will need an I – 94 form along with the International Driving Permit. Here you’ll have to drive on the right side of the road.

2. France

In France, you’ll be driving on the right side of the road. You will be allowed to drive around the country for up to a year, but a translated copy of your Indian license is mandatory.

3. Great Britain

Here you can drive on the left side of the road which is more comfortable for Indians. You can rent a card for a period of one year and you will need to make sure you rent the right class of vehicles permitted according to you license.

4. Australia

You can drive around New South Wales, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory and Queensland. however, you can drive here only for three months with a valid Indian License.

Here, you can drive on the left side of the road.

5. Germany

In Germany, you’ll be driving on the right side of the street, however it will only be possible to drive here in the first six months of your arrival. It will be better and recommended if you have a translated copy of your license handy for the locals.

6. New Zealand

One needs to be above the age of 21 to be able to drive in New Zealand. An entirely English copy of the license is necessary. Here you can drive on the left side of the street.

7. South Africa

An entirely English license is required. Your signature and photograph on it will make it easier for you to travel around South Africa. Carrying an International Driving Permit will make it easier for you to hire a car that you will have to drive on the left side of the road.

8. U.A.E.

Here you can drive on the right side of the street and an English driving license is necessary along with the International Driving Permit.

9. Switzerland

In this country, you will be driving on the right side of the street and you’ll need an English copy of your license to be able to drive here. You’ll get a permit of driving for one year.

10. Mauritius

You can drive on the left side of the road here. Carry the International Driving Permit and as long as your driving license is in English, it will be easy for you to hire a car.
