Hopping on to buses from various locations in the presence of celebrities, volunteers of Citizens for Bengaluru on Saturday went singing all the way to Shanti Nagar. The ‘Bus Bhagya Beku’ campaign is aimed at creating awareness on the need for better public transport.
Launched along with the Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike, the campaign urged the government to provide financial support to BMTC to halve the fares and double the fleet.
Nearly 500 volunteers boarded buses between 9.30 am and 10 am from Majestic, Shivajinagar, Jayanagar, Kormangala and Banashankari bus stands and reached Shanti Nagar depot.
Actors Shraddha Srinath and Bhargavi Narayan, pop band Thermal and a Quarter’s Bruce Lee Mani, classical singer Ashwin Sharma and former RJ Vasanthi Hariprakash sang on the buses along with volunteers on the need to use public transport.
A memorandum was submitted to BMTC MD Ekroop Caur pleading for more buses in the city. Thousands gave a call on a specific WhatsApp number as part of a Missed Call campaign launched simultanenously.
