25 Iconic Cars From The Jurassic Park Movies
Most of the vehicles that have been featured in the Jurassic Park film series are rugged off-roaders, but there are some fancy wheels on screen from time to time. The Lost World showed us that the Pontiac Custom S can outrun a T-Rex, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom proved that if you have enough money to buy a Rolls Royce, you can also afford to buy an Ankylosaurus. Here’s a look at the 25 most iconic cars from the Jurassic Park films.
Who can forget the sense of awe when Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler first witnessed the Brachiosaurus as they pulled up in the classic Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler YJ, which was used in the original Jurassic Park film is easily the most iconic car in the entire franchise.
Jurassic fans are buying Wranglers up in droves so they can customize their own to match the film. There were multiple different numbered Wranglers used in the film. The Jeep Wrangler that Dennis Nedry tried to escape in before being spit at and eaten by the Dilophosaurus was Jeep Wrangler 12, while the one chased by the T-Rex was Jeep Wrangler 10.
The Ford Explorer is a pretty boring vehicle, but when you slap a jungle inspired yellow and green paint job on it, the ride becomes one of the coolest vehicles in cinematic history. The large sunroof is perfect for viewing dinosaurs, but it won’t protect you if a T-Rex attacks.
The Ford Explorer Jungle Cruiser was equipped with state of the art computer technology. Well, it was state of the art for the early 90s at least. Guests could learn all about the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park as they were guided along the track. The Ford Explorer Jungle Cruiser had one major flaw, no locking mechanisms on the doors.
23.1969 PONTIAC CUSTOM S
Most of the vehicles on this list are off-road vehicles and heavy haulers. That’s simply the nature of the franchise. However, there have been a few cases where dinosaurs have faced off against fast cars.
In The Lost World, Ian Malcolm drives this sleek Pontiac Custom S to lure the bull T-Rex back to the docks. With the baby T-Rex on board, Malcom raced through the streets of San Francisco in this classic car.
A Jurassic Park film wouldn’t be complete without a Hummer or two. These vehicles are perfect for chasing down and capturing dinosaurs. Hummers have appeared in The Lost World and its spiritual successor Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
In The Lost World, the Ingen Hummer HMC4 was modified with a passenger area on the back to easily spot dinosaurs in the distance. The Hummer HMC4 is extremely tough, and it can easily withstand an attack from an angry Pachycephalosaurus.
21.FLEETWOOD SOUTHWIND STORM
This is the ideal RV to take on a camping trip, but it can also do wonders if a person is looking to make a secret expedition to Isla Sorna. The FleetWood Southwind Storm appeared in The Lost World, and its presence in the film is extremely memorable.
Who can forget this RV dangling off a cliff as Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum,) Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), and Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn) carefully tried not to make any sudden movements. The FleetWood Southwind Storm is a dependable RV, but even this RV can’t stand up to a pair of angry dinosaurs.
20.MERCEDES BENZ ML 320
Mercedes and Jurassic Park go together like eggs and bacon. No Mercedes vehicles appeared in the original film, but the automaker from Germany had a strong presence in the franchise ever since The Lost World.
The Mercedes Benz ML 320 was part of John Hammond’s (Richard Attenborough) secret expedition to Isla Sorna. The camouflage paint job allowed it to hide in the jungle, but the ML 320 was still spotted by mommy and daddy T-Rex. The Mercedes Benz ML 320 was featured in one of the most memorable scenes in The Lost World. The car was totalled, and Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff) was ripped in half by the T-Rex before being gulped down.
19.UNIMOG U 4000
The Unimog is a perfect vehicle for transporting dinosaurs. Multiple Unimog models have appeared in the Jurassic Park franchise. The Unimog U4000 appeared in Jurassic World as a mobile veterinarian unit. Who can forget the memorable scene where Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) tried to outrun a pack of angry raptors in this bulky vehicle?
18.MERCEDES-BENZ UNIMOG U 1300
The Unimog U 1300 is a solid vehicle, and it was right at home as part of Ingen’s convoy of SUVs, trucks, and off-road vehicles. The Unimog U 1300 was part of the fleet of vehicles that went to Isla Sorna in The Lost World to capture dinosaurs to bring back to the mainland.
The Unimog U 1300 handled wonderfully on the dinosaur game trail, but the mission was still mostly a failure. Numerous dinosaur species were captured but they were all let loose by saboteurs.
Here’s another tough Hummer from the Jurassic Park Franchise. This Hummer also appeared in The Lost World, and just like the HMC4, it was also equipped with numerous modifications to make capturing dinosaurs easier.
The HMC2 in The Lost World was heavily modified with an apparatus to catch dinosaurs. Seats were mounted on the side of the vehicles, and the mercenaries in these seats were equipped with snares. There was also a giant apparatus on the hood of the Humvee that could fold down to secure a dinosaur in place. This Humvee was the ideal vehicle for capturing dinosaurs.
16.MERCEDES BENZ GLE COUPE
Mercedes-Benz has benefited greatly from having its cars featured in the Jurassic Park franchise. There were many Mercedes cars featured in Jurassic World, including the luxurious and stylish Mercedes Benz GLE Coupe.
This Mercedes wasn’t used for maintenance or capturing dinosaurs. Instead, the GLE Coupe was Claire Dearing’s choice of transportation. It’s the perfect car for a high-ranking executive in Jurassic World. It’s comfortable and sleek, but it wouldn’t do much good against an angry Indominus Rex.
15.MERCEDES-BENZ G63 AMG 6X6
The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 is the ultimate off-road vehicle. This mighty SUV appeared in Jurassic World, and it was used as the main mode of transportation for the park’s asset containment unit.
When the Indominus Rex breaks out and starts wreaking havoc, this is the first vehicle that shows up. This is exactly the kind of vehicle a person would want if he or she was going up against a dangerous hybrid dinosaur like the Indominus Rex.
Jurassic World requires a lot of day to day maintenance, so it would make sense that there would be a vehicle like this at the park. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a pretty unremarkable vehicle, but it is very useful.
This is the kind of vehicle that maintenance crews and electricians use, and in the Jurassic Park universe, they serve many purposes. Jurassic World was equipped with many Mercedes-Benz Sprinters. Some were used to shuttle guests while others were used as maintenance vans. There was even an armored version that was used to transport members of the asset containment unit.
13. MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is to Jurassic World what the Jeep Wrangler is to the original Jurassic Park. The silver and blue paint job on this 4×4 really stands out, and it’s nearly as iconic as the Jeep Wrangler. Claire and Owen (Chris Pratt) take the G-Class out into the park to look for her lost nephews, and instead, they find a herd of Apatosauruses that have been dominated by the Indominus Rex.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most popular vehicles with fans of the Jurassic Park franchise. If they were as cheap to buy as a Jeep Wrangler, perhaps you would see more fans customizing their own.
12.KAWASAKI TERYX4 LE
A fully-functioning dinosaur park requires a lot of vehicles. That includes more than just trucks, SUVs, and cars. There were also a number of ATVs used in Jurassic World. Take the Kawasaki Teryx4 LE for example.
This ATV was primarily used as a maintenance vehicle in Jurassic World. Zach and Grey also used the Kawasaki battery to get the old Jeep Wrangler up and running again. That’s just one of many incredible things in the Jurassic Worldmovie.
Chris Pratt riding a motorcycle alongside a pack of raptors sounds absolutely insane, but that’s exactly what happens in Jurassic World. The bike that Pratt rides in the film is the Triumph Scrambler. This is a very cool bike, but in real life, it probably wouldn’t perform the best on dirt.
The bike was upgraded for the film with Arrow 2-1 exhaust, Renthal handlebars, and a Lucas tail light. It’s a great motorcycle, but using it to race alongside a group of trained raptors is incredibly silly.
10.1987 FORD F-350 CREW CAB
Jurassic Park III might not be the worst film in the Jurassic Park franchise, but it is perhaps the most forgettable. The same can be said for the vehicles in the film. There aren’t many vehicles in the film that really stand out.
The 1987 Ford F-350 Crew Cab is one of the most memorable vehicles from the movie. This is the truck that Alan Grant uses at the Montana badlands dig site where he is looking for fossils. This is the perfect truck for a paleontologist. It has more than enough power to trek through the desert, and its huge box makes it ideal for hauling huge dinosaur bones.
9.MERCEDES-BENZ UNIMOG U 5000
Here’s another Unimog from the Jurassic Park franchise. This one appeared in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and it was used to track down dinosaurs and export them off the island.
This is an ideal vehicle for transporting dinosaurs, but one scene that this vehicle appears in is incredibly unrealistic. There is no way that a Unimog U 5000 could make a huge jump from the dock all the way to a transport ship. It’s a heavy hauler, not a dirt bike.
This is the only vehicle on the list that you can’t actually buy. Getting a second-hand Jeep Wrangler is pretty easy, but buying a Gyrosphere is impossible. These unique modes of transportation have a lot going for them.
A guest at Jurassic World can easily view herds of herbivores by traveling in a Gyrosphere. The glass is bulletproof, but it cannot withstand the jaws of an Indominus Rex. Another downside is that you have to listen to a safety presentation by Jimmy Fallon before using one. Getting eaten by a T-Rex sounds preferable.
7. BAE LAND AND ARMAMENTS CAIMAN
This off-road vehicle is adept at traversing rough terrain, including muddy swamps. This makes it an ideal big rig to track down dinosaurs. The BAE Land and Armaments Caiman featured heavily in the film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
In the real world, this powerful machine is often used. The Armed Forces use these vehicles as does the UAE Army. The BAE Land and Armaments Caiman is also used by SWAT teams throughout the USA.
The Textron Tiger is an excellent vehicle to take on a dinosaur hunting expedition. The Textron Marine and Land Systems Tiger was used by Ingen to capture dinosaurs in the film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The tiger was taken to Isla Nublar via amphibious vehicle. While it’s a sturdy vehicle with a lot of power, it does not have much use against dinosaurs and molten lava.
5. ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM
This is easily the fanciest and most luxurious car on the list. It certainly seems out of place in a Jurassic Park film. However, the Rolls Royce Phantom appeared in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
This super expensive automobile was driven by one of the cartoonish evil villains who were bidding on the various dinosaur species in the secret underground dino auction. Surprisingly, this car costs more than some of the dinosaurs.
When you need to haul something as big as a T-Rex, you need a semi like the Kenworth T-800. This large hauler was featured in both Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The Kenworth T-800 was used by Ken Wheatley and his crew to transport large dinosaurs off of Isla Nublar. An international 9200 was also used to transport some of the larger dinosaurs off of Jurassic World.
3. JEEP GRAND WAGONEER
This is the only new Jeep to appear in a Jurassic World film. It was nice to see the Jeep Wrangler return in Jurassic World, but since the original Jurassic Park, most of the new vehicles introduced in the series have been Mercedes.
The Jeep Wagoneer appeared in the final scene of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. After all the dinosaurs are let loose into civilization, Claire, Owen, and Maisie are seen on the highway driving in the classic Jeep Wagoneer.
2.CHEVY BLAZER K5
The Chevy Blazer is an iconic off-road SUV. While it didn’t feature heavily in any of the Jurassic Park films, it did have a cool hidden cameo in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
The Chevy Blazer K5 appeared broken down and dilapidated in The Lost World. If you look closely you can see it in the scene where the raptors attack Ian Malcolm and his daughter at the abandoned gas station and maintenance center.
1.KAWASAKI BRUTE FORCE 750
Mercedes may supply most of the cars and SUVs for the Jurassic World films, but Kawasaki seems to have the contract for all the ATVs.
The Kawasaki Brute Force 750 featured heavily in Jurassic World. Owen drives this ATV when the Pteranodons are attacking the park, and later in the film raptor handler Barry (Omar Sy) uses the Brute Force to go after the Indominus Rex.
