Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance is to probe a paint scam at KSRTC in which paints of substandard quality were used by the corporation.

A letter in this regard is to be sent to the Vigilance Director in two days and disciplinary measures are to be taken against Executive Director Technical, KSRTC, for withholding a report given by the corporation’s Vigilance department regarding the quality of the paint.

Last June, the vigilance department of KSRTC had informed the MD that substandard paint was being used, thereby incurring heavy losses on the transport department. The news, reported by Manorama News, prompted the Transport Minister to order a detailed probe.

Explanations have been sought from Executive Director Technical because no action had been taken even after six months of the report. The purchase of Brindavan Paints, which is not even available in the markets, had caused additional expenditure of Rs 2.12 crores, Rs 2.17 crores and Rs 2.19 crores in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.
