Two blind men killed as KSRTC bus rams into crowd

Thrissur: Two visually challenged men were killed as a bus rammed into a crowd at the KSRTC bus station here at 9.15 am on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the driver of a Palakkad-bound KSRTC Volvo bus mistakenly put the wrong gear and the bus rushed forward while it was coming out of garage for the first service of the day.

The bus rammed into those who were waiting for bus at the station. It first hit a wall and moved forward into the crowd.

Sources said that the driver had no experience in driving a Volvo bus.

The deceased were identified as Ratheesh (29) and Vinod(31), both hailing from Pattambi in Palakkad. Ratheesh was the manager of Palakkad blind cricket team and Vinod a player. They were on the way to attend a meeting of the blind cricket team managers in Kochi.

Both the driver and conductor have been taken into custody.

The crowd was less at the bus stand as it was Sunday. The body of the deceased have been kept at the District Hospital.
