After removing Tomin J Thachankary from the post of transport commissioner, Transport minister A K Saseendran has trained his guns on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) chairman and Managing director Antony Chacko. Unlike, Thachankary who courted controversy by distributing cakes on his birthday, it is said the KSRTC CMD is being replaced due to pressure from LDF allies. “There will be a change in administration at KSRTC soon,” said minister AK Saseendran at a press meet.

LDF allies, especially CPI, were not happy with Saseendran, who was reluctant to initiate changes in KSRTC. “The CPI leaders questioned the minister in the LDF meeting. Some of the issues raised by LDF when it was in opposition, such as improving revenue, were not addressed,” said a trade union leader. According to him there was a general agreement to bring about a change at the helm of KSRTC after Onam. The left wing trade unions are unhappy with the delay in making decisions on replacement.

“The minister had a chance to take a call when former Thiruvananthapuram collector Biju Prabhakar was removed from the post. But the transport minister was not keen.” said the source. The minister himself had acknowledged that he was slow at initiating changes.

It is said that the ministry had approached former KSRTC CMDs such as Alexander K Luke and TP Senkumar. The former reportedly demanded funds to meet the expenses of the corporation for the initial six months, which alone would need around Rs 500 crore.
