Recommendation to increase minimum bus fare to Rs 8

Thiruvananthapuram: The minimum bus fare in ordinary buses in Kerala is likely to go up soon. Justice M Ramachandran Committee has recommended to hike the minimum bus fare to Rs 8 from Rs 7. Ten percent hike is also recommended in other ticket rates.

Justice M Ramachandran Committee has handed over the recommendations to the Chief Minister’s Office which is in charge of the Transport Department. The recommendations will be considered in the Cabinet Meeting.

Private bus owners have demanded to hike bus fare from Rs 7 to Rs 10. The last hike in bus fare was in 2014. Students also will have to pay more as the concession rate will also go up. The committee has recommended to raise concession for students from 14 percent to 25 percent.

Private bus owners are demanding a fare hike followed by the hike in price of diesel and wage of workers. Meanwhile, KSRTC management has asserted that hike in bus fare will not be a solution to the financial crisis.
