‘Perfect driver’ of KSRTC to retires; Even passengers want him back

K. S. Vijayan, a driver of Thrissur depot, is retiring on May 31. If KSRTC had a provision to reappoint a retired employee, they would have sustained him. He is the only employee of KSRTC who has received the allowance of Rs 100 per trip, granted for the staff who save fuel. He has been receiving the allowance from the day it was implemented. Also he is the only person who has received Thrissur region’s award for the best driver.

Vijayan has been working in KSRTC for 18 years. He has been in the Thrissur-Bengaluru Super Deluxe bus for 15 years. The driving mileage fixed by KSRTC is 5 km per litre. But when Vijayan drives the bus, mileage will be 5.5 km per litre. The Bengaluru bus travels 1076 km on its one trip including return, and it requires about 210 litre of fuel. Vijayan always reduce it to about 200 litre. He has also a record of reducing the same to 184 liters.

He has never had even a slightest accident in his service. KSRTC MD Tomin Thachankary came in person to hand over the award to Vijayan for safe driving and maintaining best mileage. The passengers have started enquiring about Vijayan as he is presently on leave. Some of them even want to know if any recommendation can bring him back. Vijayan hails from Vettukad of Thrissur.
