Edappal: In a freak mishap, the front glass of a bus was shattered when a peacock hit it at Kandanakam on the National Highway on Sunday morning.  Though the peacock came crashing into the seat next to the driver’s seat, it did not panic and flew away after a few minutes.

The incident happened at about 8.30 in the morning near the Kandanakam KSRTC bus workshop. The peacock was flying towards the thick bush behind the KSRTC workshop from one of the trees on the roadside.

The peacock flew across the road and first hit a national permit lorry going towards Thrissur and then in the impact hit the front windshield of the bus plying to Kuttippuram.  The glass broke into pieces and the bird landed inside the bus. The driver who lost control of the bus immediately applied his mind and stationed the bus on the roadside.

Panic-stricken passengers and the driver of the bus were first taken aback on the first sight of the peacock.  The peacock was fed water and was lying hurt. As it did not show any signs to fly away, the passengers alighted from the bus and were asked to board another bus. Later the peacock drank water kept beside it and flew away as though nothing happened.  Earlier, locals recalled an incident where a peacock was hurt while another one died when a bus hit it.
