Neyyattinkara: A notorious criminal, who has been sentenced for life term, escaped the clutches of police allegedly through a well-planned strategy.

Ernakulam Biju alias Nadirkhan (38), a native of Aryanad, managed to escape while coming out of a court after trial on Friday. The incident happened when police took Nadirkhan to the bus stop. Only two police officials had accompanied him.

He was handcuffed but was not hinged with the hands of the policemen. The police’s plan to take the convict, who is accused in more than 250 cases, in a bus without necessary precautions has come under flak.

Intelligence had issued an alert to the jail authorities that there is a chance that he may try to escape.

While waiting for the bus, Nadirkhan forcefully pushed aside the policemen and ran straight to his former jail-mate, who was waiting beside the road with a motorbike. They immediately fled the scene in the bike and the police could not do anything.

Nadirkhan was convicted for life imprisonment under POCSO act for sexually abusing a minor girl.

Police believe they rode away to Thiruvananthapuram. He was wearing a black t-shirt and pants at that time.
