Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan is considering some unusual steps to break-even the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), which is incurring heavy loss.

In what would be a strange initiative if implemented, the Minister said that an insurance scheme for the passengers of the state carriage could be considered.

“Just like air travel has insurance coverage, travel in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses could be brought under insurance coverage. To attract people, rest rooms will be constructed in major bus stations so that passengers can comfortably wait for buses.

“Bulk parcel and courier service through Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are the two areas that could be tapped to increase the revenue of the Corporation.

“Additional facilities will be arranged in buses for this. Buses more than 15 years old will be replaced with new ones,” Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told mediapersons here on Friday.
