Around 40,000 KSRTC pensioners are planning to restart agitations similar to the one organised against the Oommen Chandy government, after pension distribution due on every 15th missed the date with no immediate solution in sight. The loss-making transport corporation has failed to cough up its share of Rs 27.5 cr  for the pension fund.

“We are awaiting the KSRTC’s decision. If they cannot distribute pension before August 21, we are going to launch protests in all district headquarters the next day,” warned KSRTC Pensioners Organisation Treasurer A Sainulabdeen. According to him, even in the previous month the situation was the same.

The KSRTC made a desperate attempt to put more burden on government. But it was objected by Finance Department. However, last-minute borrowing made pension distribution possible on July 21, thereby averting protests. A total of Rs 55 cr is needed a month to pay pensions alone and the government is contributing half the amount.
