Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Monday distributed financial assistance for victims of accidents involving KSRTC buses under the KSRTC group insurance scheme. While David and Chechiyammal, dependents of Velliyammal and Murukesan, who died in a bus accident at Kumily, were given Rs.1,00,000 each, 60 other passengers who were injured in various other accidents were given a total of Rs.66,652. P.C. Vishnunath, MLA; KSRTC MD Antony Chacko; and Deputy General Manager, New India Assurance John Philip were present. Under the group insurance scheme, travellers in KSRTC buses are insured against accidents. The RTC is levying a social security cess on bus tickets from April 1 this year to fund the scheme.
