Nineteen clashes between the crew of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses and passengers were reported in the past one year, Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has told the Assembly.

In a written reply, he said of the 65 such cases reported last year, 19 were in Thiruvananthapuram, by far the highest in the state. Alappuzha, Kottayam and Thrissur stood second with seven incidents while Kozhikode was in third place with six cases. Ernakulam and Kannur reported five cases while Kollam and Pathanamthitta followed with two incidents.

Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasargod reported one incident each.

The Minister said in reply to a question by M V Sreyams Kumar that such incidents have come to the notice of the state government. He attributed the clashes to drunk passengers, passengers who do not cooperate when during rush hours and, ‘’in some cases,’’ the provocative behaviour by the conductors.

There is a valid reason, however, why Thiruvananthapuram tops the list. KSRTC operates more services in this district than anywhere else.
