KSRTC Bus Driver Caught Repairing Mobile Phone While Driving

A driver of a state-run Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus was caught repairing mobile phone while driving vehicle packed with passengers. The reckless behaviour of the KSRTC bus driver was captured by one of the passengers, who uploaded the video which went viral on social media. The incident took place on Wednesday.

As the video went viral on the social media, Pala-based Mahatma Gandhi National foundation chairman Aby J Jose submitted a complaint to chief minister.

The KL 15-7780 limited ordinary bus was going from Kottayam to Kumily at NH 183. During the journey, the driver MR Jayachandran, a native of Idukki, started repairing his mobile phone even as the bus was moving through the busy streets. After the video of the incident went viral, KSRTC MD A Hemachandran sought a detailed report from Ernakulum zonal officer.

“We have suspended the driver as our preliminary inquiry has shown that he is at fault. The video already proves that the driver was using mobile phone while driving. The vigilance has recorded the statement of the driver. We will submit a detailed report on the issue,” KSRTC Kumily depot assistant transport officer Shaji AJ was quoted as saying.

With his action, the driver put lives of dozens of passengers in danger as the NH 183 including Kottayam-Kumily route has many dangerous curves and gorges. KSRTC buses are the main mode of transport in the 110 kilometre long stretch. Kerala chief minister’s office also directed KSRTC MD to take action.
