Masi Kodai festival at Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman Temple near Colachel in Kanyakumari district began with the traditional flag hoisting on Sunday.
Thousands of devotees from across Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts and Kerala witnessed the flag hosting ceremony led by ‘tantri’ Edakkode Mahadeva Iyer and Mel Shanti Sattanatha Kurukkal. The Kodai festival is the most important event at the temple.
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation operated special buses to the temple from various destinations.
