Fuel shortage: KSRTC in the grip of major crisis

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has drastically cut down its schedules due to shortage of fuel. Several long-distance buses were stranded.

Transport Minister AK Saseendran had indicated Sunday that the corporation is reeling under severe crisis.

In the circular issued to employees some days back, KSRTC MD Tomin J Thachankary had said that the corporation needs to give Rs 186 crore for diesel alone.

The corporation has received Rs 20 crore only from the government now. This is not enough for the disbursal of salary and other things, Thachankary said in the notice.

The present situation is more pathetic. Many depots do not have diesel. Many long-distance buses got stranded due to shortage of fuel. KSRTC is facing such a crisis even as attempts are being made to modernise the corporation are going on.  The crisis during Onam days will affect KSRTC’s revenue in a big way.
