A passenger had a harrowing experience on Sunday morning when the crew of a KSRTC bus assaulted him for not tendering the exact fare. The incident occurred on a Superfast bus plying between Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram. According to eyewitnesses, a spat erupted between the man and conductor of the bus when he gave a Rs 500 note for ticket, after boarding the bus at Cherthala.

The conductor then asked the passenger to pay the exact fare from Cherthala to Ernakulam, which is only Rs 20.   Later, the passenger who did not have the change asked for the balance when the bus reached Vyttila, which irked the conductor who again asked for exact fare.   When the bus reached the Vytilla Mobility Hub around 11 am, the driver and the conductor asked the man to meet the station master. “At the station master’s office, instead of giving the balance, the passenger was beaten up by the bus crew,” said an eyewitness.

“Based on a complaint filed by the passenger, the conductor and the driver were taken into custody and a case was filed against them,” said the police. KSRTC officials tried to play down the incident.
