3 dead, 15 injured as lorry rams into a TNSTC bus

KARUR: Three persons were killed and 15 others suffered injuries when a government bus and a sand lorry collided head on near Karur in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to police, a TNSTC bus driven by Yuvaraj (48), a native of Dharapuram, was heading towards  Tirupur via Tiruchy with about 30 passengers on board. While the bus was near Mochakottampalayam on the outskirts of Karur, a sand laden lorry from Karur rammed into it head on.

In the impact, the lorry driver Appasi (40), and two women passengers in the bus identified as Rajathi (60) and Rajalakshmi (26) were killed on the spot. Besides, as many as 15 passengers in the bus suffered injuries.

Locals in the vicinity with help of ambulance service personnel took the injured passengers to Karur GH and also some private hospitals nearby. Sources said all of them are stable.

Karur town police personnel registered a case and are investigating.

On hearing about the incident, M Tambidurai, Deputy speaker of Lok Sabha, State Transport minister M R Vijayabhaskar along with Karur district collector K Govindharaj visited injured at the GH, and assured them that appropriate treatment would be provided.
