In a joint operation, over the last three days, the Motor Vehicles Department and the traffic police have stopped 61 parallel services that were operating in and around the city.

The MVD and the traffic police conducted an inspection after receiving a complaint from KSRTC executive director (operations) Sharaf Mohammed that these parallel services were affecting the services of the corporation by operating ahead of the KSRTC services. The vehicles used for the services were stopped and brought to the KSRTC depot in Eanchakkal. The MVD said that these vehicles had been operating as stage carriers with contract carriage licences.

The MVD also said that there was an increase in the income of KSRTC by Rs 4,20,000 from services in these areas after the measures taken to stop the parallel services. “Checking will be strengthened in the coming days,” RTO K M Shaji said.
