A high-level meeting convened by transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday decided to start the work of KSRTC bus stand-cum-shopping complex at Malappuram within three months.
A four-storeyed building will be constructed as part of the first phase of the work and later it would be developed into a six-storeyed one.
The proposed bus terminal cum-shopping complex was planned to construct after demolishing the Malappuram depot-cum-bus stand of the KSRTC.
Though the project was announced almost four years ago, the authorities had failed to start the work of the project. The authorities had approved the revised project recently but the project delayed indefinitely.
The fresh decision was taken after the visit of minister in sub-depot of KSRTC on last Monday. The Kerala Transport Development and Finance Corporation (KTDFC) is the implementing agency of the project.
“The ministry-level meeting, which was attended by senior officials of KSRTC and KTDFC, has decided to start the work within three months. We will issue a fresh tender for the project soon. The technical formalities have completed to start work of the bus stand cum shopping complex. We are hopeful that the foundation stone for the project can be laid within three months,” said local MLA of Malappuram P Ubaidullah.
The total estimated cost of project is Rs 18 crore and the government has already allotted Rs one crore for the initial procedures of the project. The detailed plan of the project would be submitted to get no objection certificate (NOC) from Fire and Safety authorities, on Thursday and later it would be submitted to Malappuram municipality for approval.
