An 18-member special inspection wing of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has inspected buses in the district, especially those plying in Ernakulam-Muvattupuzha route.

Ernakulam Vigilance Inspector in-charge of KSRTC M.V. Ambujakshan said the drive was in keeping with directions issued by the agency’s CMD Antony Chacko to increase daily income to Rs.7 crore. It was Rs. 4.50 crore a year ago, resulting in huge loss.

“On Monday, the inspectors reached out to passengers and heard their grievances. They also detected ticketless travel. This is a break from surprise-squad inspections. Our aim is to depute inspectors to the field to streamline services and to ensure maximum revenue. Steps are being taken to end convoy services as well so that maximum number of passengers benefit from our services,” Mr Ambujakshan said. Mr. Antony Chacko had recently stated that KSRTC intended to strengthen its presence in Ernakulam district, which is dominated by private buses. Work on the Thevara sub depot is on to make it a hub for city buses.
