The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is to switch over to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Initially, 1,000 buses will be powered by CNG in Ernakulam. Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has provided Rs.300 crore from the special package as loan for the transport utility to switch to CNG.

In the current year, the KSRTC will be given Rs.50 crore. The utility will have to use the money for completing the body building of the chassis too. The KSRTC has been asked to convert majority of the buses in the fleet into CNG in five years.
