KSRTC Double Decker Buses For Rent

This time if you are planning a group trip to the capital city- Thiruvananthapuram, you don’t need to spend much time for booking a bus for going to the sight seeing places in and around the city. With the KSRTC offering a new project, ‘Heritage service’, the city residents and others can quickly opt for an eight-hour ride through seven major destinations in the capital in their favorite double-decker bus.

The two double-decker monsters which the Kerala Road State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had withdrawn from its fleet six years ago has reintroduced in Thiruvananthapuram city as tourist-friendly buses for students and tourists as part of a heritage city tourism package.

The double-decker buses will be available for tourists during day time by paying Rs-4000/- for eight-hour long city tour. A tour commencing from East Fort and linking historical and places of interest in the capital like Museum, Science and Technology Museum, Veli tourist village, Sanghumughom, Kovalam and back via Eenchakkal to East Fort is what has been worked out.

Students and tourists can choose an alternative option of 4 hours trip by paying Rs-2500/-. These buses can accommodate 77 passengers at a time in the upper and lower decks.

Not only children and parents, the ‘Heritage service’ has turned an instant hit among people from all walks of life. Techies, residents’ associations, offices, Sunday schools, colleges etc are making a beeline for the KSRTC depot in East Fort to register their names for the city tour.

The tour, which began on April 28, has become so popular that many have ensured their bookings much in advance. Teachers and students of NISH, employees of Technopark-based Tata Consultancy Services and various residents’ associations have so far gone on the tour. “The double-decker bus and the heritage sites are giving a sense of nostalgia to the people.

Currently, the bus conductor himself dons the role of a guide. The KSRTC is planning to introduce FM service and photos of major destinations and improve flooring in the coming days to attract more passengers.

The double-decker can be booked in advance by paying the amount at the KSRTC’s Assistant City Transport Office functioning at East Fort.
