After the meeting, Mr. Radhakrishnan told reporters that the terminal and the shopping complex would be thrown open to the public by the end of January 2015.
Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, on Friday, reviewed the progress of the works on the Kerala State Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) bus terminal-cum-shopping complex, which is nearing completion on the Mavoor road.
In the wake of public complaints that the project had been delayed because of some technical hurdles which the authorities had allegedly ignored, the Minister held discussions with senior officials from the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation (KTDFC) and the KSRTC. People’s representatives too turned up for the hour-long discussion at the Government Guest House.
After the meeting, Mr. Radhakrishnan told reporters that the terminal and the shopping complex would be thrown open to the public by the end of January 2015. “The formal date cannot be announced now as some technical slips have to be cleared,” he added.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said the final approval for the project from the Town Planning Department would be given within a month. “The department has put forth nine areas where the KSRTC will have to make some corrections for the final approval. The architect of the terminal will check it and submit the final report shortly for approval,” he added.
The Minister said that the project could be inaugurated on time as officials had been strictly asked to stick to the deadline and finish the works within January 30, 2015. “The KTDFC invested money for the project which is coming up at a prime property owned by the KSRTC. So, both agencies should get rewards from the project. At the same time, the expectations of the public should be met,” he said.
Facilities on offer
There would be parking space for 40 buses at a time at the facility. Officials said there would be 1,30,000 sq ft of commercial space to be leased out. Facilities including air-conditioned waiting rooms for travellers, hygienic comfort stations, and round-the-clock security service and surveillance cameras would be made available at the complex, they said.
