Taking a dig at Metro Rail officials for the puddles on city roads, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain said that the KMRL and the DMRC had not followed the deadline for the renovation of culverts at the construction sites of Metro Rail. Following recent rains, roads in the city have been submerged in rainwater making them difficult for being used by motorists as well as pedestrians.

The Mayor informed that more workers will be deployed to clean up the clogged culverts. According to her, all these caused due to the lethargy of Metro Rail officials.

She also blamed the negligence of the Railways and the PWD officials for the cause of waterlogged roads. During the high-level meeting of the Corporation, there arose a unanimous opinion that without the concerted efforts of all the departments, it would be difficult to tackle the situation.

Soumini Jain added that residents living in low-lying areas, including in Udaya Colony would be evacuated from their waterlogged houses if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Corporation is trying hard to evolve a solution for the problem by deploying more workers for the renovation of culverts in the city.
