Railways will begin major catering units at Nagercoil, Alappuzha, Kayamkulam, Thiruvalla, and Aluva within two months and at Kazhakuttam, Varkala, Irinjalakuda, Angamaly, Kadakkavur and Chalakudy in six months.

This was announced at the 67th Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee meeting held here under chairmanship of Divisional Railway Manager Prakash Butani.

Onboard housekeeping services now on on 13 trains will be extended to more trains. An early start at 4.40 a.m. from Thiruvananthapuram for the Venad Express, till the doubling work in the Kayamkulam-Ernakulam section is completed was proposed at the meeting.

A proposal to convert the Punalur-Madurai-Punalur Passenger as express train by removal of uneconomic stoppages with fewer than 30 to 40 passengers a day and extension of the train up to Thiruchirappalli with additional coaches was approved.
